Want to know when we're playing next? Here we provide a list of upcoming shows. Event dates, locations, and ticket costs will be added as they become available. If you are interested in receiving these updates by e-mail, you are invited to join our mailing list. You'll also find miscellaneous news about the band and its members, and even a sneak peek at our program for upcoming gigs.

27/02/09 - Thanks and Updates

First of all, thank you to everyone who came out to the dance on February 13th - it was great to see so many faces and dancers! Everyone in the band had a blast; we hope you did too.

You guys also brought dozens of bags of food items, and raised about $50 in raffle sales for the Vernon Food Bank (so far. We'll continue to tally up this number as the year goes on, and present it to the food bank all at once at the end of the year), so congratulations.

We also have a few dates lined up. The first is an open rehearsal taking place at Canterbury Court in Vernon just next week - Thursday March 5th. The band will start playing around 7:30pm and will go to about 9:00pm. This is not a show, just a rehearsal that we've opened up for anyone who wants to come listen. There's no charge, although the band is happy to take donations.

The other gigs we have lined up are a little bit more tentative, so I only have dates for now; I'll get back to you once I have start times and other fun details. For the moment, here's the list:

April 25th - Schubert Center
May 9th - Rotary Club Dinner
May 23rd - Vernon Rec Center - Dancing with the Stars

That's all for now. Perhaps we'll see a few of you next week!

02/02/09 - Star Crossed Lovers' Dance

Here are those gory details I promised you. A quick excerpt of the night's set list: We've got about two hours of music lined up: Latin, jazz, and tons of danceable tunes, a lot of which are new to the band's repertoire. The program includes new vocal numbers Chega de Saudade (No More Blues) and Teach Me Tonight; classics including Can't Help Falling In Love With You; and Latin numbers like La Cumbanchera - arranged by the band's very own Jim Johnstone.

Just skip down to the post below this to find the details of where and when. Or, alternatively, you can find them on our poster (click the image to enlarge):

22/01/09 - Star Crossed Lovers' Dance

The band will be hosting a Star-Crossed Lovers' Dance at the Schubert Center on Friday, February 13th! Expect a program packed with Latin, jazz, and tons of danceable tunes - including tunes arranged by the band's very own Jim Johnston. More on the music program when I know more. Also a poster!

In the meantime, content yourself with the gory details: The dance will start at 8:00pm that night. Tickets are $10.00 and a food item for the Vernon food bank. The tickets are available at the Schubert Center and from the Cheek to Cheek Dance Society. They can also be purchased from individual band members.

11/01/08 - Mark Rose Swing at Schubert Center

The Mark Rose Swing band will be playing at the Schubert Center Saturday November 8th. We've got hours of dance music lined up for you guys, so be sure to come check it out! A sneak peek at our program is below, but first, a couple other items of business:

First of all, the swing band would like to bid a fond farewell to our guitarist Jim Horton, who retired from the band this September. Jim, our best to you - the band misses you!

The other thing is that the swing band is gearing up towards some studio time, so we'll have some sample songs available soon. There'll be more information on that as it comes. In the meantime, be sure to check out our music clip pages, because you never know! We're also in the process of designing a logo, which will definitely appear on the website once it's done. In fact, you might be looking at a brand new website, with a new look and some fun features, in the next couple of months. In the interim, as promised, here are some of the titles you'll hear on Saturday:

Why Don't You Do Right: Vocal
When Sunny Gets Blue: Vocal
The Girl From Ipanema
Hernando's Hideaway
In The Mood

07/16/08 - Rare Earth Jazz and Blues Festival

The Mark Rose Swing will be opening up the Rare Earth Jazz and Blues Festival with a bang on August 30th at 11:00am. We're the first up in a great lineup, so make sure you don't miss it! For the curious, here's a few of the titles that we'll be playing at the festival...

Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me: Vocal
The Lady is a Tramp: Vocal
A Salute To Glenn Miller: Medly
In A Sentimental Mood
It Don't Mean A Thing

No, that's not all, but if you want to find out what the rest of the program looks like, you'll just have to come out and listen!
