The Mark Rose Swing Band had its beginnings in 2000 as a spin off from the Second Wind Community Band, where Mark played trumpet & french horn. Starting in conjuction with a five-person Dixieland band, we soon grew into a Big Band, patterned after those of the '30's, 40's and 50's such as Glen Miller, Arte Shaw and Duke Ellington.

One of the band's first performances was at the Sunshine Festival in June, 2000, with Mark conducting - fresh out of stroke rehab. Mark's indomitable spirit has had the band learning and improving over the years, facilitated by his great sence of humour. Mark retired in March 2007, passing the baton into the hands of his daughter Toni Rose.

We now play every 4-6 weeks, often supporting local fundraising with a wide variety of music: Latin, rock, jazz, and of course, swing. We are available for dances and event bookings throughout the Okanagan.

Mark passed away in March of 2008. The swing band continues to play in his name and his memory. Mark, our tribute to you.
